Herejía was formed in 1988 in Bogotá, Colombia by main songwriter and guitar player Ricardo Rocha. They soon gained recognition as pioneers of extreme music in their hometown playing classic Death Metal and sharing the stage with bands that will become household names in the country’s music scene.

By 1994 they released the “Extractum ex Infernis” cassette, though the format was used for demos at the time, the recording was conceived as a full length including an intro + 9 tracks.

A few years later the band entered a hiatus until 2015 when Rocha decided to bring Herejía back to life with a renewed concept, integrating symphonic and theatrical elements and a new lineup. “Renascentia in Tenebris” released in 2017 was more than a comeback album, it showcased a mature sound, elaborated songs and polished image. This attracted attention from fans and media and helped them secure a spot on several shows and festivals.

2021 brought hardship to Herejía’s camp when founding member Ricardo Rocha passed away leaving the band in sadness and uncertainty. Remaining members and Rocha’s family agreed that the legacy of the band should continue, keyboardist Andres Triana took the leadership and writing duties to complete the composition process cut short by Ricardo’s passing.

The upcoming Herejía album titled “In Nomine Obscuritatis” will be released by HateWorks in 2023.
